Telework and your energy costs

February 19, 2021

Do your employees also often work from home since the outbreak of corona? Then you might save a lot on your energy consumption? Only, your employees use more energy at home. How do you actually arrange this as an employer and should you arrange this? As an energy broker, we have already listed a few things and we also look further than just the costs of energy. After all, we are there to think along with you.

Record homework in writing

If your employees frequently telecommute, make sure you record this in the employment contract. Know that in principle teleworkers can organize their working time themselves and that the standard hours do not apply. As an employer, you can of course sketch a framework. For example, you can ask to be available for a meeting between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. In any case, make good agreements about working from home to prevent problems and preferably put them on paper.

Homework allowance

By the way, as an employer, are you obliged to provide a home work allowance? It is certain that employees who have been working at home since corona do ask for it. This winter is coming and the energy bill of your employees will also rise, and they also consume more coffee, etc. Moreover, many employees are also seeing their commuting allowance or bicycle allowance disappear. As an employer, you can reimburse home work in several ways:

 ● With structural work from home you are in any case obliged to pay the costs for communication and connection. As a telecom broker we can of course play our role here. If you do not pay this fee, you must in any case provide the means.

 ● General office costs can be reimbursed: water, paper, heating, coffee, ... A lump sum of 129.48 euros is possible for this tax-free.

 ● You can reimburse the costs of an office chair, a printer,…. This is not mandatory.

Know that in principle you are not legally obliged to pay a home work fee. Still, working from home can save you quite a bit as an employer on your energy bill, your rent and general costs.

Work accident, what now?

Your employees are also covered by your work accident insurance when working from home. So neither you nor your employees have to worry about that. This coverage is very broad.

Optimizing your energy bill

Now that many employees are working from home, it may be the perfect time to take a closer look at your energy bill. This way you can optimize your costs and budget may be released to pay your employees for working from home. Our energy brokers will work with you to find the cheapest solutions and ensure that you enjoy the cheapest energy rate on the market.
